The Blue Angels fly Friday through Sunday, with practice on Thursday July 30.

Here is the part most people miss. The hydroplane course and the air show box are a Coast Guard restricted zone.

It is enforced roughly 8 AM to 6 PM, Thursday through Sunday. No vessel may enter. That includes paddle boards and kayaks.

So you cannot paddle up to the race pits. But you can absolutely be on the water that weekend.

Launch north or south of the zone and the jets still fly overhead. Or skip the chaos and paddle a quiet lake instead.

Where to Paddle on Seafair Weekend

The restricted zone sits on Lake Washington around Genesee Park and the Stan Sayres pits. These launches keep you well clear of it. Boundaries and hours change year to year, so check the official Seafair notice and the Coast Guard announcement before you go.

Seafair Weekend Paddle Board Rental FAQ

Can I paddle board at the Seafair hydroplane races?
Not in the race area. The Coast Guard enforces a special local regulation and a safety zone over the hydroplane course and the air show box, and no vessel may enter or remain inside it while it is being enforced. That includes paddle boards and kayaks. You can paddle outside the zone, and the Blue Angels are visible from a wide area of the lake.
When is Seafair Weekend 2026?
The Boeing Seafair Air Show and the hydroplane races run Friday July 31 through Sunday August 2, 2026, on Lake Washington near Genesee Park. The Blue Angels practice on Thursday July 30. The air show performances are generally in the late afternoon, around 3:40 to 4:50 PM. Check the official Seafair site for the current schedule.
Where can I watch the Blue Angels from the water?
Anywhere on Lake Washington outside the restricted zone. Paddlers usually go well north of I-90 near Leschi and Madrona, or well south toward Renton. The jets fly high and loud, so you do not need to be close to the show box to get a great view of them.
Is it safe to paddle on Seafair weekend?
It is the busiest boating weekend of the year on Lake Washington, with heavy powerboat traffic and a lot of wake. If you are newer to paddling, we would steer you to Green Lake, Lake Union, or an early morning start before the boat traffic builds. Always wear the life vest we include.
Do you rent for the whole Seafair weekend?
Yes, and it is the better deal. Day one is $60 and each additional day is $50, with a full week capped at $160. You can pick up after 4 PM the evening before and return by 10 AM the morning after, and neither counts as a rental day.
What is included with the rental?
Everything. Your board or kayak, paddle, USCG life vests, an electric pump, a dry bag, a waterproof phone case, and a Bluetooth speaker. That is about $175 of gear, free with every rental. It all packs into any trunk.
