Paddle Board Rentals for Lake Tapps
Warm, wide-open water between Bonney Lake, Sumner and Auburn. Pick up in Tukwila and carry it to the beach.
Check the lake level before you drive out
Lake Tapps is a working reservoir, not a natural lake. Cascade Water Alliance fills it from the White River and holds it at recreational level roughly April 15 through September 30, then draws it down for fall and winter. Spring refill usually starts around mid-February.
When the river runs low, the refill stops and the level drops. In a dry year that can close the public boat launches before the end of September, and low water makes the ramps and shallows genuinely hazardous. Park hours, day-use fees and ramp rules also change through the season.
None of that is something we can promise from here, so check the official pages the morning you go. If Tapps is down, your rental works on any other lake in the state, and there are three good backups in the launch list below.
2,400 acres of warm summer water. No roof rack needed.
Lake Tapps is a big, shallow reservoir between Bonney Lake, Sumner and Auburn.
It heats up fast. By July it is some of the warmest open water in the region.
Nearly all of the shoreline is private. Two public parks get you on it: North Lake Tapps Park and Allan Yorke Park.
Both trailer ramps have rules and fees. A board you carry to the beach skips the ramp line entirely.
Water level is managed and it moves. Check the level before you drive.

Where to Launch on Lake Tapps
Almost the whole Tapps shoreline is private, so the two public parks do all the work. We have added three nearby lakes as backups for a drawdown or a windy afternoon. Every pin is a public launch. Tap any card for directions.
The main public access, on the northeast shore. Sandy swim area, restrooms, and a long stretch of open bank to launch from. Day-use parking fee in summer; the boat ramp itself needs a Pierce County reservation.
45-acre city park at the south end with a beach and docks. The trailer ramp is Bonney Lake residents only, so carry your inflatable down to the beach instead.
Closest backup to our pickup. Swim beach, dock, and a short carry from the lot. Small and calm when Tapps is windy.
Quiet park lake with a beach, a boardwalk, and a gentle entry. An easy swap if the Tapps ramps are closed.
No gas motors, so the water stays glassy all day. State park, so bring a Discover Pass and check the seasonal hours.
