Seattle’s wildest shoreline. 16 minutes from pickup.

Seward Park is a 300-acre forested peninsula on Lake Washington in south Seattle.

Paddle all the way around it, about two and a half miles, or stay inside Andrews Bay where the water is calmer.

Andrews Bay is a city anchorage with a 3-knot speed limit, so boats move slowly. On a clear day Mount Rainier sits right over the south end.

Keep 100 yards off the swim beach and the fishing pier, and launch from the designated hand-carry spots below.

Bring your own and you are not tied to anyone’s hours or hourly rates. The whole kit fits in any trunk.

Seward Park Kayak & Paddle Board Rental FAQ

Can you rent a kayak or paddle board at Seward Park?
There is no rental booth you can count on at the park itself. Chapin Adventures rents inflatable kayaks and paddle boards that you pick up in Tukwila, about 16 minutes away, then launch at Seward Park whenever the park is open. See rentals and pricing.
Where do you launch a kayak at Seward Park?
Seattle Parks designates a hand-carry launch on the south shore of the peninsula, east of the southeast parking lot, and a small-boat landing at Andrews Cove near the park entrance. Across Andrews Bay, the Ferdinand Street Boat Launch is an official hand-carry ramp. Stay out of the swim beach area.
Is Andrews Bay good for beginners?
Yes. It is sheltered by the peninsula and is a designated anchorage with a 3-knot speed limit, so boat wakes are small. On summer weekends boats anchor there, so give them room, and stay at least 100 yards from the swim beach and the fishing pier.
How long does it take to paddle around Seward Park?
The loop around the peninsula is roughly two and a half miles. At an easy pace most people take about an hour to an hour and a half. The east side faces open lake and can get choppy on windy afternoons, so go in the morning if you are new.
Is there parking at Seward Park?
Yes, free parking lots inside the park, which is open 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. They fill on warm weekends, so arrive early. The Ferdinand Street launch has a small lot of its own.
What is included with the rental?
Everything. Board or kayak, paddle, USCG life vests, an electric pump, a dry bag, a waterproof phone case, and a Bluetooth speaker. That is about $175 of gear, free with every rental. It all fits in any trunk.
